Road and gate closures announced
The 2011 Air Force Marathon will take place Sept. 17, causing a number of road closures on and near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The following times and locations are provided so motorists can plan accordingly.
Area A
- Gate 12A: Closes at 6 a.m., reopens at noon.
- Gate 9A: Opens at 6 a.m., closes at noon - general access to A.
- Roads: All roads affected by the Air Force Marathon routes will close at 6 a.m. The following will reopen at approximately noon:
- Kuglics Avenue
- Chidlaw Road
- Metzger Drive
- Lahm Circle
- Yount Drive
- Breene Drive at Talbott Road
- Estabrook Road at Talbott Road
- Pearson Road
- Boyd Street
- Wright Avenue
- Buckner Road
- Allbrook Avenue The following will reopen at approximately 1:30 p.m.:
- Skeel Avenue
- Loop Road
- Douglas Road
- Mitchell Road
- Riverview Road
- Marl Road
- Pylon Road
- Hebble Creek
- Off-base roads
- Fairborn streets: all closed to traffic from 5 to 10 a.m.
- Ohio 444 at Gate 1A (Broad Street) to Main Street
- Main Street
- Pleasant Avenue
- Xenia Avenue
- Grand Avenue
- Ohio 444 (westbound) - from Twin Base Golf Course entrance, closed from 8 to 9:30 a.m.
- Other off-base roads: closed from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Ohio 844
- Kauffman Avenue (at Old Col. Glenn Highway) to Ohio 444
- Wright State Road
- University Boulevard
- Springfield Street (eastbound)
Area B
- Gate 19B: Open (24 hours) - NO RUNNERS ENTRY (even with base access). Only Saturday workers, fire, volunteers may use.
- Gate 22B, Spinning Road gate, Armory gate: 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. - RUNNERS ONLY roads: All roads in Area B affected by the Air Force Marathon will be closed from 6 to 10 a.m.
- Loop Road
- Hobson Way
- 10th Street
- Skyline Drive
- C Street
- 9th Street
- Loop Road/C Street to Gate 1B until 3 p.m.
Anyone reporting to work Sept. 17 should review the road closure and course maps to plan in advance a suitable route to his or her place of work.
